Adams welcomes positive development in Basque peace process


Sinn Féin Press Release, 23-12-2014:

Sinn Féin party President, Gerry Adams, has welcomed the positive statement from the International Verification Commission (IVC), that ETA is continuing the process of putting its “arms, ammunition and explosives” beyond operational use.

The IVC were established in September 2011 to verify the “permanent, general and verifiable ceasefire” declared by Euskadi Ta Askatasuna (ETA).

Etxerat: September 2014 – Report


Etxerat, is a Basque association that gathers relatives of individuals who have suffered imprisonment, exile, deportation, torture or even death on the context of the Basque Conflict.

Etxerat is best known for its work regarding prisoners’ and relatives rights. They produce a monthly report, relating the events and issues Basque prisoners’ have gone through during the preceding month.

Repatriation and early released denied in up to 65 cases

The committees of treatment of different prisons are denying all  the individual petitions that prisoners have made demanding parole, in the case of prisoners with incurable illnesses, and the transfer to Basque prisons for all of the rest. Up to now there are more than 65 who have been denied, arguing that, among other things, ETA hasn’t disbanded, the ill prisoners have already filed their appeals before the Prison Supervision Court.
