Basque public television’s show “Ur Handitan” dealt with the issue of backpack kids (boys and girls with the father, the mother or both in prison) in a programme broadcast on the 10th January. The show had an audience of 7.8% and reached an accumulated audience of 112,000 spectators.

The programme held interviews with several kids and teenagers whose parents are held in prisons hundreds of kilometres away. The kids were asked about their feelings and lives, about the double punishment that dispersal policy puts on them.

The programme has been translated into several languages by volunteers, on the bottom bar, look for the “Closed Captioning” icon “CC” and click on it, a pop-up window will appear with options, select the language and the subtitles will be displayed at the bottom of the video.
