Laura Mintegi is quite near to be the first woman to reach the status of “lehendakari”, the first woman to be the president of the Basque Country. So I would like to talk a little bit about this woman, what her curriculum is like and how much she can contribute to the Basque Country.

She works as a teacher in the University of the Basque Country. She is professor in history and doctor in psychology. She is a member of the Basque Language Academy. She is the author of many literary works. In the past and even nowadays, Laura Mintegi has participated and participates in many social, political and cultural events. She was one of the names in the list of the candidates to the European Parliament Elections in 1987 and 1989 for the Abertzale Left . She was nominated by the coalition Amaiur in 2011 for Madrid parliamentary elections. So, we can believe without doubt, she is well qualified to be the president of the Basque Country.

But even taking into account all I have said before, the success of the proposal that Laura leads, is the sensitivity she treats people, the positive energy she radiates and of course the work her team is doing now, during the elections campaign, and will be doing afterwards.

This government team is conformed by 12 people all together, 6 women and 6 men. All of them have a very strong baggage not only because they are all very highly qualified people, but also because they have been working in different associations. There are lawyers, economists, engineers, a philologist, a doctor and a BA in political sciences. But the better thing is they have been working all over the world in many different subjects such as food sovereignty or participating in many events, for example, in the ONU, in conferences and events against torture.

So, as I said before, it will be worth to have Laura Mintegi and all the others building the Nation of Euskal Herria, building the Basque Country. Good luck for all of them.
